MineTexture Open Editor

MineTexture, Blockbench or an image editor?

They are good at different things, and many pack makers use more than one. This page compares what each is built for, as fairly as we can. If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we'll fix it.

When MineTexture fits

You want to retexture blocks and items, animate them, change sounds or names, and get a pack that loads in Java Edition, without installing anything or making an account. It handles the pack files, so you don't need to know the folder layout or pack_format numbers.

When Blockbench fits

You are making detailed 3D models, entity models or animations, or you need Bedrock Edition. Blockbench is the standard tool for this and does far more modelling than MineTexture. You can import a Blockbench .bbmodel into MineTexture if you want to use both.

When an image editor fits

You already know a tool like Aseprite, GIMP or Photoshop and want its full painting features, or you are drawing high-resolution textures. You'll set up the pack folder and pack.mcmeta by hand; our resource pack guide shows how.

What MineTexture doesn't do

Blockbench, GIMP, Krita, Photoshop and Aseprite are the trademarks of their owners. MineTexture isn't affiliated with any of them, or with Mojang or Microsoft.

Try it with your own pack. There's nothing to install and no account.
